Zoom and Friends
...or TCM and videoconferencing.
Software
The University has a site licence for Google Meet. Google Meet requires no client software; it runs entirely in a browser.
The University has a site licence for Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams has clients for Linux (installed in TCM), MacOS and Windows. They all have slightly different features...
TCM has a multi-user licence for Zoom. The Linux Zoom client is installed on our desktops. For two-person meetings a free Zoom account may be sufficient. To use TCM's licence, a spare licence will need to be assigned to you for a suitable period.
Other free platforms are available, such as gather.town .
Hardware
Cameras in the TCM Seminar Room can produce a view-only, 30 second delayed, live stream, see the separate page on Seminar Room Cameras.
Room 545 contains a PC with speakers and a webcam/microphone. It is intended to be used for meetings, and that room is no-one's office.
Your own computer might or might not have a sound card. See audio in TCM for more details. It won't have physical speakers (bring your own headphones), camera or microphone. It should support a standard UVC webcam/microphone, and there should be one in room 523, but it has a habit of walking, and then being too tired to return.
