XMGR's / XMGrace's EPS

Xmgr and xmgrace have a habit of producing EPS files which draw white boxes over neighbouring text when used with LaTeX. The problem is that the EPS contains a white rectangle which is the same size as the figure but rotated by 90 degrees with respect to it. This draws outside the declared bounding box, and thus confuses LaTeX.

Two solutions exist. In xmgrace one can simply select "Plot", then "Plot appearance", and uncheck the "Page Background" "Fill" box. (The dots which then appear on screen are not printed.) If one cannot rerun xmgrace, the solution involves editing the EPS file. Load it into your favourite editor, and seach for "%%EndSetup". The delete (or comment out by prefixing with "%") the lines reading:

0.0000 1.0000 l

and the job is done. (A slightly different value may take the place of 1.2937)
